Praying for a future wife is not about constructing an imaginary woman or treating marriage as a reward you are owed. It is an invitation to pray for a real person's flourishing before you know her, while allowing God to confront and prepare you for covenant love. These prayers focus on character, discernment, mutual calling, and waiting without entitlement.

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”
Proverbs 31:10 (KJV)
Father, Proverbs 31:10 calls a woman of noble character more valuable than rubies. If marriage is in Your plan for me, form my future wife first for Your glory, not for my preferences. Deepen her faith, strengthen her character, protect her calling, and let her life be full and fruitful in You before our stories ever meet, in Jesus' name.
Lord, teach me to pray for her as a person rather than a role I want filled. Ephesians 2:10 says she is Your workmanship with good works prepared for her. Protect me from imagining that her purpose begins when she meets me. Let me honour the gifts, friendships, work, ministry, and history You are building in her independently of my future place in her life, in Jesus' name.
Father, prepare me for the sacrificial love marriage requires. Ephesians 5:25 calls a husband to love his wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. Expose selfishness, entitlement, emotional avoidance, financial irresponsibility, or patterns that would burden a future covenant. Make me capable of service, faithfulness, apology, listening, and shared responsibility, in Jesus' name.
Holy Spirit, give me discernment when relationships begin. James 1:5 promises wisdom to those who ask. Help me recognise character over charm, peace over urgency, and mutual spiritual fruit over fantasy. Give me courage not to force compatibility, ignore warning signs, or make a person carry a promise You have not actually spoken, in Jesus' name.
Lord, I surrender timing and outcome to You. Psalm 37:5 says to commit our way to You, trust You, and You will bring it to pass. Keep me from wasting this season in anxious searching. Let me build a faithful life now, and if You bring a wife into it, let our meeting and progression be marked by wisdom, freedom, counsel, and peace, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Yes. You can bring the desire for marriage to God like any other desire. The prayer should leave room for God's wisdom and timing rather than assuming marriage is guaranteed. Pray for her wellbeing and calling, for your own preparation, and for discernment when relationships arise.
Pray about your own readiness as seriously as you pray about the woman you hope to meet: character, emotional maturity, sexual integrity, finances, communication, capacity to serve, and willingness to be accountable. Ephesians 5:25 makes self-giving love, not entitlement, the central picture of a husband's role.
