Prayer for Depression — 5 Scripture-Based Prayer Points
Depression is real, it is painful, and God is not absent from it. Elijah experienced suicidal despair (1 Kings 19). David wrote the darkest Psalms from the pit. These prayer points do not minimise the reality of depression — they declare God's covenant presence within it.

Prayer Points
Father, I speak to my own soul as the Psalmist did in Psalm 42:11 — why are you cast down? I command myself to hope in God, because He is the health of my countenance. I declare that this darkness is not the end of my story, and I will yet praise Him, even when I cannot feel it yet, in Jesus' name.
Lord, Isaiah 61:1-3 declares You were anointed to bring good news to the poor in spirit, to bind up the brokenhearted, to give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning. I receive that anointing now — every exchange Isaiah describes is available to me today, in Jesus' name.
Father, Romans 15:13 calls You the God of hope — fill me with all joy and peace in believing, that I may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. I cannot manufacture this hope myself; I ask You to pour it in supernaturally, in Jesus' name.
Holy Spirit, I ask for Your nearness in a tangible way — as You ministered to Elijah in 1 Kings 19 with food, rest, and the still small voice, minister to me in the same gentle and practical ways. Touch my body, my mind, and my spirit with Your restorative grace, in Jesus' name.
Lord, I declare that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). I do not know when my morning will come, but I trust that it will. You have promised to turn my mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11) and I hold that promise through this darkness, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Is depression a spiritual problem?
Depression can have spiritual, psychological, biological, and circumstantial dimensions — often more than one at once. It is not always the result of sin or lack of faith. Elijah experienced profound depression in 1 Kings 19 immediately after his greatest spiritual victory. God's response was compassionate and practical, not condemnatory.
Should I get professional help for depression as well as pray?
Yes. Prayer and professional help are not mutually exclusive — they work together. Therapy, counselling, and sometimes medication are tools God provides through wisdom and medicine. Seeking help is not lack of faith; refusing all help despite suffering is not strength. Pursue both God and the resources He has provided.
